  • Key quality confirmation for the production and distribution of Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries
  • Environmental protection by design

Battery expert VoltStorage has been certified by TÜV Süd as a specialized company under the German Water Resources Act (WHG) in accordance with §62 AwSV. The certification authority confirms that the company fully complies with the legal requirements for handling potentially water-endangering materials. This is particularly important for the production and distribution of the VoltStorage energy storage system VDIUM C50 for commercial and industrial use, which uses Vanadium Redox Flow technology.

That specific technology fundamentally differs from conventional battery technologies. It stores renewable energy generated by the sun, wind, or other renewable sources in a liquid electrolyte solution held in tanks. It is considered especially environmentally friendly as it does not rely on rare earths and conflict minerals and is recyclable. Additionally, it is characterized by high operational safety and longevity.

Certification as a specialized company under the Water Resources Act (WHG) according to § 62 AwSV is an important requirement for companies to be authorized to perform certain work on facilities handling water-endangering liquids. Operators of such facilities are obliged to engage only certified companies for these activities. Due to the electrolyte tanks used in Redox Flow technology, VoltStorage has obtained certification, providing its customers and partners with another quality confirmation.

Bernhard Mayr, Head of Engineering at VoltStorage, states: "Certification according to the WHG ensures that we meet legal requirements in handling water-endangering substances—an important quality aspect not only regarding our product but for our work overall. It also demonstrates how seriously we take environmental and safety aspects and actively engage in environmental protection."

To obtain WHG certification, VoltStorage has established its own team that has been appropriately trained and received specific further education. In this context, suggestions for optimization in product design, the construction of individual components such as connecting lines and hoses, and corresponding material combinations have also been implemented.
