VoltStorage, developer of the Iron Salt Battery (ISB), announces the appointment of Volker Schulte as its new CEO. With extensive experience in the international energy sector and energy storage technologies, Schulte will lead VoltStorage into its next phase of growth. His appointment marks a pivotal moment for the company as it builds on its strong foundation, expands its global reach, and advances its Iron Salt Battery technology for renewable energy storage.
Schulte brings an impressive track record from leadership roles at companies across the energy sector like Cellcube, an energy storage specialist also utilizing flow battery technology, as well as other players of various sizes such as GE Energy, Aggreko, and LightSail Energy, a Silicon Valley startup. Having lived and worked in the USA and the United Kingdom since 2013, Schulte’s international experience and technical knowledge will drive VoltStorage's strategic efforts to capitalize on global market opportunities. As demand for sustainable energy storage grows, Schulte’s leadership is expected to accelerate the commercialization of VoltStorage’s Iron Salt Battery technology and unlock new markets worldwide.
“I am thrilled to join VoltStorage at such a promising time,” said Volker Schulte. “The company has developed a groundbreaking energy storage technology with the potential to revolutionize the energy sector. My focus will be on scaling it and driving growth as VoltStorage continues its mission to enable a clean energy future.”
Schulte’s appointment follows the leadership of Jakob Bitner, who has served as CEO since the company’s founding in 2016. Bitner was instrumental in building it from the ground up, shaping its clear mission of making renewables available 24/7. He played a key role in initiating the development and production of energy storage solutions based on the flow battery technology for both residential and commercial applications. He was also instrumental in focusing the company on the Iron Salt Battery technology and advancing it to its current level of maturity. He will remain closely involved during this new phase of business development.
Reflecting on the leadership transition, Bitner stated: “VoltStorage is entering a phase of great opportunity, and I am confident that Volker Schulte is the right person to lead the company forward. With global opportunities emerging, this is the perfect time to take VoltStorage to new heights.”
Schulte’s appointment was made in collaboration with the company’s advisory board and Bitner, reinforcing VoltStorage’s strategy to strengthen its market position and technological leadership as it accelerates growth. First Iron Salt Battery pilot installations are expected by early 2027.
