Iron Salt Battery Advances to Next Development Phase

  • Successful development progress confirms the advantages of the technology
  • Next development stage with a 20-fold increase in performance

VoltStorage, an innovation leader in sustainable flow batteries and Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) systems, has announced significant progress in the development of its Iron Salt Battery. The company has successfully completed another crucial development phase and can now progress to an advanced stage of product definition and demonstration.

Promising Test Results

The Iron Salt Battery presents a sustainable, cost-efficient, and safe solution for LDES, addressing the growing need for effective storage solutions to support renewable energy sources. It has garnered positive results from all tests conducted so far. These results substantiate the overall concept of the system, which has been recognized and validated by international scientific and industry communities, including presentations at the International Flow Battery Forum (IFBF) and the ees Forum in June. Given these successes, VoltStorage is also moving forward with additional patent filings to protect its technological breakthroughs, highlighting the technical team's innovative prowess.

Enhanced Capabilities

The now started next-level development phase sees a 20-fold increase in power, the implementation of fully automated testing systems, an enhanced health management system, a defined form factor concept, and an improved technology readiness level.

“We are already in discussions with potential partners to define solution concepts tailored to their specific needs,” says Jakob Bitner, Co-Founder and CEO of VoltStorage. “These discussions include energy providers and major industry players who are seeking cost-efficient, sustainable, and safe LDES solutions to enhance their renewable energy production and usage.”

Parallel Development Efforts

VoltStorage has set up multiple development stands to accelerate the speed of development and increase the volume of collected testing data. One stand focuses on multi-stack operation, while another features a significantly larger stack, scaled up by a factor of three. These development stands are being assembled at VoltStorage’s premises in Munich / Germany, fostering close collaboration between the research and development (R&D) and product development teams.

Future Outlook

With the now started next development level, VoltStorage remains on track with its internal planning timelines and is confident to continue the successful development of the Iron Salt Battery. The company's progress hinges on the expertise, commitment, and motivation of its dedicated teams.

“Our team's hard work and high-level expertise are crucial to our success,” Verena Graf, CTO of VoltStorage, adds. “We are confident that we will continue to make significant strides in the development of our Iron Salt Battery, bringing us closer to providing a reliable and efficient LDES solution for the renewable energy market.”

As VoltStorage advances to this next level of development, the Iron Salt Battery is poised to become a pivotal solution for the transition to sustainable energy.
