On November 22, a patent filed by VoltStorage, was published, unveiling a groundbreaking technology to set new standards in energy storage. It details VoltStorage's Battery Health Management System for iron-salt based redox flow energy storage solutions, allowing them to maintain their performance and capacity over an operating life of 20 years. By this, Iron-Salt-Batteries can become the needed reliable solution for grid-level energy supply, Long Duration Energy Storage applications and thus a key missing link for the energy transition.

Michael Peither, Co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) at VoltStorage, explains: “The patent publication of the Battery Health Management System is an important milestone in the development path of VoltStorage´s Iron Salt battery technology, a long duration battery technology based on only abundant, recyclable, and low-cost active materials. This breakthrough technology has the potential to reshape the landscape of energy storage, making renewable energy sources more practical and sustainable in the long run.”

VoltStorage's system takes a holistic approach, ensuring optimal functionality and longevity by actively monitoring and managing the complex physical and electro-chemical processes within an iron salt battery. A key differentiating aspect of the system is the inclusion of a third electrolyte tank, which moderates rebalancing and refreshing of the entire battery.
