VOLTSTORAGE CTO ONE OF THE BEST YOUNG INNOVATORS
The MIT Technology Review selects VoltStorage CTO Michael Peither as one of the best young entrepreneurs under 35.
Munich, 29 June 2018 – Since 1999, the MIT Technology Review honors the best young entrepreneurs under the age of 35. The prize is regarded as one of the most important awards for young innovators worldwide. Past winners include Spotify founder Daniel Ek, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Sergey Brin from Google.
For the fifth time, the German edition of the MIT Technology Review has honored young thinkers, founders and researchers from Germany. Among Germany’s best young entrepreneurs is VoltStorage CTO Michael Peither. With this award, the innovation magazine of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) honors Michael Peither’s contribution to the development of the world’s first low-cost battery storage system for private households based on Vanadium Redox Flow (VRF) technology.
This was made possible by VoltStorage’s ground-breaking production process which was filed for patenting. For the first time, this enables the automated and thus cost-effective production of Redox Flow batteries. This allows to establish a storage technology in the mass market that does not require rare or conflict raw materials. Vanadium Redox Flow technology is also fully recyclable and offers high operational reliability and longevity.
It was Michael Peither who began working on the development of Redox Flow cells. This was the crucial part of his work for the start-up VoltStorage, which he later co-founded.
More about Michael Peither
Michael Peither studied Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Munich, majoring in Electromobility and Industrial Engineering. He worked in several positions as for instance in battery integration for BMW or at the start-up Konux, throughout Germany and the USA. Michael is CTO and co-founder of VoltStorage and responsible for Technology Development (R&D), patents and the commercialization evaluation of new developments.
